I'm constantly amazed how often people question the purpose and role of internet archives and search engines.
If you're putting pages on the web, it's because you want them to be viewed. You're opting into the community by publishing.
If you don't want your pages viewed (because you feel it's a violation of your copyright), then don't post them.
If you want to limit how your pages get viewed (for example, prohibiting archives and search engines), then use the web's built-in opt-out mechanism: robots.txt
Is that so difficult to understand?
For some reason the idea that the World Wide Web is a medium for World Wide publication of electronic files doesn't seemed to penetrate the myopic world view of some content providers, artists and businessmen alike. Those that find their embarrassing first stumbles into HTML showing up on search engines and archived by the Wayback Machine should look at the experience as a Zen masterly boot to the head to expand their Internet Awareness.
Feh! Down with whiners!
