I've been eyeing a flat-panel LCD monitor to replace my 7-year-old 15" CRT at home. I've been thinking about it for close to three years now, waiting for the quality to be high enough and the cost to be low enough.
I've also been keeping my eyes on some new technologies that will soon replace LCDs and flat-panel plasma displays.
Today, I came across a quote from Tim O'Reilly on some observations that came from the recent Foresight gathering:
People overestimate what will be done in two years, underestimate what will be done in ten years. Medium-term predictions are the hardest. This will take a while. So try to have fun. With that in mind, I think the time is right to replace the big old monitor, but not quite the right time to think about a flat-screen digital television. Not when this year's $15,000 model won't compare too favorably to a $500 model due out in a perhaps five more years. :-)
