IBM won a contract to provide NOAA with a new supercomputer for the National Weather Service. This machine will help make better weather forecasts by incorporating more data, more physics and may lead to a pseudo-reliable 2-week forecast.

What's really impressive is that the system, when fully built out over the next few years, will be roughly 700 GFLOPS. The machines will be PowerPC (Power4/Power5) based.
