It's official. Oracle has purchased Sleepycat, makers of BerkeleyDB.

(I wonder what other open source databases are left for Oracle to buy...)


Doom for MySQL

This is the other leg that MySQL had to stand on for a transaction-savvy table, after Oracle purchased the makers of their primary technology, InnoDB.

"The other shoe has dropped."

Time to start learning PostgreSQL, and migrating.

Bah. Those crafty Finnish Swedes (or are they Swedish Finns?) surely have a few more tricks up their sleeves. If anything, this is a hit to MySQL the company, not MySQL the product or MySQL the project.

Perhaps someone could port PostgreSQL to a MySQL Storage Engine.
