Tonight (and last night too, for that matter) the web has been a little darker than usual. Google is down (or, rather, my ISP can't seem to find a path to www.google.com; it is up).
Usually, when slashdot, use.perl, perlmonks or some other such site goes dark for one reason or another, it tends to be a sign that it's time to move on (and give the hard working net admins a break, instead of coming down like a ton of bricks when they're working feverishly to bring a site back up). Occasionally, when a site like CNN is down, it usually means that your network connection is totally screwed, or something really strange is going on.
But Google? That's tantamoumt to half the web being unreachable. Who remembers every little URL anymore?
I've had problems reaching google once in the past because of some DNS weirdness that was happening higher up. Do what I did, grab the IP and have it around in case you want to add it to your hosts file, it really helps sometimes
