Required Reading

Joel has his list of 75 books that will be required reading for his management trainees.

And I've actually read about a third of them. Scary!

Here are some highlights you may have missed:

  • The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison
  • The First $20 Million Is Always The Hardest
  • Show-Stopper!
  • startup
  • Burn Rate
  • microserfs
  • Slack
  • The Tipping Point
  • High Stakes, No Prisoners

Soul of a new machine

I've read about 10 of them but he doesn't seem to include Soul of a New Machine which is one of the best books I've ever read. I bought the original about 15 years ago from a second hand shop and must have read it a dozen times since then.

However, now I shall have to go out and read all the ones he does suggest. At least my Christmas present wishlist is easy :-)

Good point. I can never look at AViiON the same way again. ;-)

Cuckoo's Egg isn't on that list and should be.

Well, you guys just have to do what he says:

This is my very first-draft list. By the time we get started a lot of these books will be replaced with better books, I hope; if you have any suggestions please feel free to email them to me. I haven't attempted to sort them or rank them yet; the order is completely arbitrary.
