USENET suffered a fatal blow when AOL opened up the floodgates and started the september-that-never-ended.

Now, about a decade later, AOL is closing access to USENET due to lack of interest.

But will Abigail change the date for his Usenet attribution lines (currently "MMMMCLXXVIII September MCMXCIII")? Somehow I doubt it. Plenty of AOLers escaped AOL a long time ago.
