David Ascher at ActiveState has written a White Paper on dynamic programming languages in use today. It's not news, but it does codify the roles languages that open source languages (like Perl) play in the industry, and why it is often advantageous to use a dynamic language over the "safe choice" of C#/Java.
It's long (~25pp double spaced in PDF), but it is a reasonably complete high level view of what we experience on a daily basis. Good work, David!
