Orkut: It's about free beer

Everyone is trying to figure out the point behind orkut. Here's Avi Bryant's take:

Jeremy [Hylton] came up with a definition I like: "Orkut friends -- someone who you would buy a beer for if they were in town".

So if you're on Orkut and you get an invitation from me, consider it an implicit promise of a pint sometime down the road.

I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you, to learn that social networks are merely a means to get free beer!

Free beer!

Oh no! That means I need to list on orkut everyone who has ever been to a Stonehenge OSCON party! I better get typing! (Would that be "strong typing"?)

I'm shocked too!

I'm shocked that he's found a good use for social networks at all. ;-)
