Got into work an hour late this morning. The 7:34 train wasn't running, and both northbound and southbound trains were singletracking. The 8:30 train did arrive, eventually.
There was a suicide attempt early this morning right by the racetrack. Someone was on the tracks when a freight train was coming past. Long trains like that (with ~50 cars) don't exactly stop on a dime. I wouldn't be surprised if it took a good quarter mile before that freight train came to a stand-still.
Somehow, it puts all of the whining, complaining and bickering that accompanies the holiday season into a greater perspective...
