Classics on the Web

In the aftermath discussion from LL3, I noticed a link to a web edition of Leo Brodie's Starting Forth. (Full list of links can be found one level up.)

Neat!

This book was a small print run title from a small vanity press. It's a very difficult book to find, and it's not going to be reprinted any time soon. (The introduction claims 500 copies were available as of April 2003, but that claim isn't backed up by the vendor's website. Amazon says they can get it, but the price is rather steep...)

Now, to find if Leo Brodie's sequel -- Thinking Forth -- is available on the web yet...

Legit?

Is this copy legit? I remember some strong discussions with regards to this book on the comp.lang.forth newsgroup, with participation of Elisabeth Rather, president of Forth, Inc, the company who holds the copyright for this book. I remember how she stated that no way, her company could even think of breaking even on updating (the version of FORTH described is outdated) and publishing this book, despite popular demand on the newsgroup — the question comes up at least once every few months.

I can recall proposals of publishing it on the web, even as a pure volunteers work, though I definitely can't recall there being any concrete plans. Makes me wonder.
