Well, it's happened. Yesterday, a research lab announced that it had successfully created a human clone.
That shouldn't be a shock. After Dolly, it was only a matter of time before someone somewhere with some research agenda successfully created a human clone.
Moral and ethical issues aside, it is a good thing. The horror story we all fear about cloning is reproductive cloning - The Boys from Brazil or Brave New World. Thankfully, this story caught me by surprise. The lab is focusing on theraputic cloning, not reproductive cloning. So, no Ru Paul, Jr. this year, but perhaps Superman will walk again.
Theraputic cloning has been the focus of what's possibly good about cloning - replacing your failing organs with fresh, healthy ones (by creating *just*the*organs* using your DNA). Reproductive cloning is the stuff that's likely to come about in a few years anyway, no matter how it's prohibited or rejected by the public.
We live in interesting times...
