Tim Bray writes about recent developments with web browsers: big companies are adopting Mozilla internally; Mozilla is spun off to the freshly created Mozilla Foundation; IE 7 won't happen, except as a full OS upgrade; etc.
IE may "dominate" the "browser market" today, but that position is neither assured nor permanent. Tim notes that IE is quickly suffering from Netscape 4 syndrome: aging technology that's holding back the advancement of the web.
This bit of observation was particularly uplifting:
People, on average and in the long term, arenâââ‰â¢t stupid and arenâââ‰â¢t patient and arenâââ‰â¢t cowards. When thereâââ‰â¢s an obviously better way to get the job done, they go out and get it, and management canâââ‰â¢t stop them, and Forrester and Gartner canâââ‰â¢t stop them, and Accenture and EDS canâââ‰â¢t stop them, and not even Microsoft can stop them.
I want to live where he lives...People, on average and in the long term, aren’t stupid and aren’t patient and aren’t cowards.
