Now that Apple is delving headfirst into the music world, will the old animosities with Apple Records come back?
Back in the 1970s, Apple Records (the big rich Beatles record company) allowed the scrappy little silicon valley startup to use the name "Apple", so long as they didn't get into music. Then these scrappy little computers got to be more powerful, and Apple sued Apple over trademark infringement; the case was settled out of court for some undisclosed sum of computerbucks. (This is about 20 years ago; my memory is fuzzy here).
Monday, Apple unveils the Apple Music Store, with content from The Big Five Record Labels (tm). The Beatles are among the artists that are conspicuous by their absence from the online catalog. So, will Apple bring Apple Records on board, or will there be another turf battle before you can buy Beatles tracks for US$0.99 each?
