NBC is on in the background as (1) white noise and (2) news coverage in case something completely surprising and unexpected occurs somewhere in the world. (Mostly, I just want some reassurance that the Vx and Anthrax hasn't come out of the arsenals yet.)
Just before 2pm, Tom Brokaw is presenting some images coming off of Iraqi TV to show that Tariq Aziz and other Iraqi officials (presumably including President Hussein) were alive and gathered around a table at some point in the past.
I'm listening with less than half an ear at this point. There is only so much news to be had in bomb-to-bomb coverage.
The very next thing I hear, at a noticably increased volume is, You are watching NBC Sports!
At first, it sounds like a very sick prank. It isn't. It's NBC running Golf+Commercials to start paying the bills.
