I have been fiddling with Perl for a long while but only in the past year or two really had a community-aware approach. I've used modules since ever but only in the past year or so decided to contribute back.
I have a long way to go till I'll be able to contribute to a lot of projects I want to but I have provided patches so far to Test::Compile, Net::OpenSSH, Jemplate, HTML::FormHandler, MooseX::ConfigFromFile, MooseX::SimpleConfig and most recently Module::Build (already applied in the new 0.35_1) and opened additional tickets for Catalyst::Controller::BindLex (deprecated), (Net::)SMTP::Server and Test::Able::Role.
There is a certain delight that one can only achieve by donating time, effort and (hopefully) skills to helping others (specifically here, other coders). I just wanted to share this feeling and hopefully push others to contribute as well. Not just to (rightfully) support, improve and help excellent projects (not necessarily just modules), but also to feel this awesome feeling.
Right now I'm trying to help close an issue on Perl101.org and I hope that at some point I'll get to contribute to more awesome projects such as Padre, Perl::Critic, Moose and Catalyst.
