Yesterday our office had a RIF. Luckily it wasn't a bad one. Unfortunately one of other programmers in our team was not so lucky and was let go.
Everyone found out about the RIF as soon as we got to work. Of course they didn't officially announce anything for hours so we were all left to stew in our cubies wondering if we should start packing our things into boxes. Needless to say coding went out the window yesterday.
It will be interesting to see how my boss decides to distribute the workload as the other programmer was primarily a Java & PL/SQL guy.
