After the recent Linux install on my shiny new desktop I realized that the Mozilla install had botched for some reason. So I fired up Netscape 4.76 and headed over to mozilla.org. It was then that something really struck me. Netscape is fast, page rendering happens in a flash. I proceeded with the Moz 0.98 install anyway but it doesn't compare. In fact it's down right sluggish in comparison so I think I'll stay with Netscape and try Moz again when the 0.99 build comes out.
I've got Mozilla 0.98 on my winblows laptop and it's pretty quick albeit slower than IE. So why is the damn Linux version of Moz so bloody sluggish - that's what I want to know, sigh.

Thanks. After playing with Galeon for a while I think you're right, it is a tad faster than Mozilla, although still a teeny bit slower than Netscape IMHO, but I'll stick with Galeon for the time being and see how it goes.Re:Galeon

I think it is slower than Netscape. OTOH, Netscape in general and on Linux looks like CRAP! Plus, Galeon supports CSS and lots of other good things so pages look even better.
All the nice features (both from Gecko and Galeon itself) more than make up for the speed loss it causes, AFAIC. Of course, I'm on a Athlon 1.33Ghz with 512MB so that might help a bit too;)
