The earlier custom for April Fools day was simpler. One (or at most two) stories, carefully researched to sound plausible, inserted inbetween real news. Take a look at Slashdot, in the past few years, April Fools has been story after story that's been obviously fake. Sheesh.
I remember going "whaaaaa" when they posted the "new compression method" story in 2001. Never since have they reached those heights. This year in particular.. yikes. I was one of many that was groaning "oh, please.. make it stop, please please make it stopppp" :)
I see use.perl isn't immune either :) I didn't believe it for a minute, but I like the way this story was presented by Newsforge. Note the disclaimer at the bottom of the page;)
