I hate crappy hard disks!!

The whine is because a 5 month old HD gave me a bad sector.. If I lose it, I lose something like 30gb worth of data (inconvenient to rerip the mp3s from the CDs again, for one thing)

As luck would have it, the bad sector was on a partition that had Warcraft, and I have no idea where the CD is anymore.. (ugh). This practically forces me to clean up my room and find the CD *sigh* Wonder if the warranty allows me to replace the disk (for one 8kb bad sector in a 60gb disk).. its worth calling and finding out, I feel very edgy trusting anything to that hard disk anymore. At the very least, maybe I can get another disk and keep some stuff on that.. This is sort of related to something I read on Slashdot today.. I dont WANT a 60gb disk, I cant think of any uses for that much space.. I want 20-30gb maximum, but I want it reliable for at least a couple of years (maybe more).. Is that so much to ask ?

I downloaded most of the oracle documentation for 9iR2 and was reading it throughout the weekend.. The highlight so far: Oracle SQL now supports CASE (so I can stop using DECODE).. Had a few more a-ha moments when reading the built-in package reference.. DBMS_REDEFINITION in particular sounds very very nifty.
