Woodstock needs a new name!

How would you name a new web framework today?

I like "Jifty" and "Catalyst", but those names are kinda taken.
The best suggestion so far was "ReAction".

What do you think?

name suggestion

Call me old school but I prefer simple names from the dictionary. How about "paradigm"

Uh... What is it?

I bleieve in meaningful names. I have no idea what this thing is. "It's a new framework" is not good enough for me. What are its goals, its selling points? Once you've established that, once I know what you stand for, I might come back and think up a name.

"Woodstock"? I thought it was an audio related project.

Well, "Woodstock" was also my codename for Catalyst before Danijel had the idea for the real name.

I think the biggest selling point will be that it fixes a lot of design mistakes in Catalyst.
Things like private/public path mapping are not necessary, the way internal forwarding works is completely counter intuitive...
And there is a lot more, especially usability will be weighted very high in Woodstock.

In the same way that Catalyst fixed what you saw as design mistakes in Maypole?

I'm finding it difficult to see the proliferation of Perl frameworks as a good thing. No wonder people see Ruby on Rails as so inviting.

It's a plot to have more wrappers on the CPAN than actual code.

How do you define "actual code", something without prereqs?
Then you are right, Perl people tend to be quite good at reusing code.

"Actual code" does something beyond implementing the adapter pattern.

Personally, if sri decides he wants to build a framework, that is his business. No?

In Ruby you 1 framework to rule them all. I don't think that is very good at all either.

Operation Blazing Vengeance

This is a stretch

jk2addict on 2006-05-02T16:36:53

The world needs another MVC framework like I need another hole. But if I must play this game, my vote goes to:

Ceylon

It's the old school name for Sri Lanka (yes, a play on the username sri), and Sir Lanka just happens to mean "venerable island".

Cylon!

Ceylon or Cylon?

The mascot should be a tea kettle with an oscillating red light.

Or a toaster that makes tea.

Hmmm

Tempo
Aegis (I kind of like this one; logo could be a shield with a Perl camel)
Agave (Ah gah vey)
Helix
Mojo

Yes, it is "Mojo"!!! :D
