APress is running a hell of a deal: Beginning Perl Web Development: From Novice to Professional, Pro Perl, Pro Perl Parsing, Regular Expression Recipes: A Problem-Solution Approach, and my own Perl 6 Now: The Core Ideas Illustrated with Perl 5 for $50.
I fought and fought to make Perl 6 Now small. At 400 pages, I'm not sure if I succeeded, but the cover price of it alone is $39.99.
If you're not already a proud owner of P6N, here's the background, again: most Perl 6 features have their origins in Perl 5 modules that work well enough for production or at least general programming. Other Perl 6 features that didn't have roots in Perl 5 modules were made into modules after the fact in a sort of retro-porting, modding scene that's taken a life of its own (and was my start in this project). Still other Perl 6 features are cleaned up, friendly versions of more
assertoric Perl 5 features. P6N shows you how to use most of these wicked new features in Perl 5 and shows you what they might look like in native Perl 6.
