Seagate is having some absurd rebates this week plus Outpost's normal pricing means things like a 160 gig drive for $50. I got a 200G for $70 which arrived today. That plus a drive enclosure == 200gig 7200rpm 8.5ms external USB 2.0 drive for $110!
And now I employ it to the purpose for which it was bought, backing up my iBook's hard drive which has developed some bad sectors. Using RsyncX to copy the HALF MILLION files onto the externals partition means it hits pretty much every bad sector on the disk.
Tick tick whirrr. Tick tick whirr. Tick tick whirr.
Every time it hits one all disk access comes to a screaming halt. You'd be surprised just how often OS X has to touch the disk. So productivity will be, shall we say... lessened today.

you betcha -- $10 per 25 GB for a good HD, even including shipping, is too good to pass up, especially since I need to do a full backup (I think) before that new OS X thingy comes out...
It seems like it wasn't so long ago when a "good buy" on a SCSI hard drive was ~$100/MB.
