I thought this was an interesting discussion about wanting to untie a variable from within a tie handler, and I had something which works in 5.6.1, but apparently doesn't work in 5.8. Must have been an undocumented deprecated feature :-) Still, it would be nice to be able to do that, I wonder how hard it would be to change the behavior back?
