I hve my laptop back. It's been a pretty annoying journey to reach this point, as I have mentioned in several previous log entries. But I have it now, and I'm happy enough to put the frustrations behind me. Save for the lingering ire over the check I wrote this afternoon for $998.14 freakin' bucks. That brings the TCO on this thing to $2573.14, including the previous trip to the shop where I'd naively thought I could get Dell to fix it.
But I have it now. And I'm content enough that I'm even using it to compose this entry, which will then be fed into my journal-posting script, because these days SOAP is pretty much my life :-).

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary. -- James D. Nicoll
