Got hold of the work laptop and installedcygwin on it. With clever use of a local sshd and putty I get most of the mileage I get with sshing to a real server, with the benefit that it'll work away from the rest of the world.
Fiddled about with ccache a bit. Found that the usual
ln -s /usr/bin/ccache ~/bin/gcc
didn't work, so I have to
remember to export CC='ccache gcc'
One small stumbling block; Although screen builds with some light patching, it's partly broken - you can't reattach to a session. Another yak in need of a trim I guess.
