At least brian has noticed the short article put together by Mitchell N Charity, The Year in Scripting Languages. (It also hit slashdot.)
Well, I'm responsible for the Perl part. (This sounded appropriate as I write the P5P summaries.) Quoting brian :As I read it again, I noticed that Python and Tcl had a long list of applications---things written in those languages that non-programmers could use. Nothing was listed for Perl (or Ruby or Lua).That was a deliberate choice. Because (1) there are a lot of applications or libraries written in Perl, in various fields, (2) I know some fields quite well (mod_perl), some others not at all (PerlQt, bioinformatics), (3) I didn't want to stress some application of Perl over some other. I didn't elaborate on Perl 6 and Parrot either. The first plan was to have Piers to write a paragraph on Perl 6, but it was acknowledged that nothing in Perl 6 and Parrot has happened in 2002 that can be considered important to the end user. (on the other hand, the Ruby folks mention Parrot ;-) So I focused on the community. Which is, as you know, quite interesting.
