Santa, sex and putenv

A German priest (a Jesuit, unsurprisingly) started a campaign against the old bearded marketing tool known as Santa Claus. I like Jesuits.

By the way, journal comments seem to be off by default now. I just wanted to post a comment on ziggy's last journal entry. So here it is. The article he links to says that 75% of the cases of sudden death during sexual activity involved ... extra-marital sexual intercourse. The obvious statistical conclusion is that 75% of sexual activity is extra-marital. I like numbers.

Other news. Are you a C programmer ? Then don't pass automatic variables to putenv(3). I like C.

Hm. Sorry about that. Comments are enabled on that posting now.

There are more options for comments now than the last time I looked. It used to be just enabled/disabled, and now it can be limited to friends/foafs, or exclude foes/friend's foes. Interesting.

It was our (slashteam's) fault. We changed how commenting works, and didn't update the user's preferences for journal entries. But it was later fixed, and problems should be gone by now.

Oh, and the new options: I don't expect they will be too useful here, but some people might want to restrict to friends-only, or to exclude foes. The thing is, because we have very foes here, and no anonymous posting, it's rarely an issue.

I sometimes wonder ...

... what percentage of all C programming bugs consist of passing ephemeral values to code that expects permanent ones.
