So I expect we will soon be able to compile 5.6.2 under gcc 3.2 (how do you like experiencing the pumking pressure first-hand?

Pumpkings don't do deadlines;-P
Increase the number of modules in the standard library, and get threading working.

Threads ? Assimilation of CPAN ? That's already been done : it's called 5.8.0 !More seriously the goal for 5.6.2 is very modest : to modernize its compilation system (gcc 3 compatibility, recognize recent OSes such as AIX 5 or OpenUNIX 8, recognize recent libs such as recent Berkeley DB) and upgrade a few core modules that have been proven to work with perl 5.6.1. And release 5.6.2 fast, in order to prove to the world that the perl community is able to maintain older versions.
Activestate distributes a patched 5.6.1, which fixes will eventually go later in 5.6.3.

You will probably need even more tools than that to survive the responsibility you just picked up.

Re:MacPerl

MacPerl 5.8.1 : new perl, old OS. Perl 5.6.2 : old perl, new OSes.FWIW I don't work in maint-5.6/perl but in maint-5.6/perl-5.6.2, a branch created from perl 5.6.1. After 5.6.2 is released I'll integrate the changes made here into maint-5.6/perl. At this point I'll check what's in maint-5.6/macperl. So eventually we'll have a 5.6.3 containing all fixes you and Sarathy already commmitted. If you want any specific changes to be in perl 5.6.2, mail me.
