We just watched the special edition of Beauty and the Beast on DVD with our daughter, and I was shocked at the end to realize that Jerry Orbach, Law & Order's Detective Lenny Briscoe, played Lumiere, the overamorous candelabra. Freaky.
In less of a leap, David Ogden Stiers played Cogsworth, the clock.
I always remember Jerry Orbach as the Father in Dirty Dancing. I can never get out of my mind the final scene, where Jerry Orbach's character apologizes to Patrick Swayze's character for having wrongly judged him as the sleaze that abandoned that other girl to the botched abortion, even though he'd just witnessed a dance that would convince any Father than his little teenage girl had definitely been sleeping with this 20-something worldly dancer guy.
It was almost like Jerry Orbach's character was saying "Listen Son, I had you wrong all along... Here, take my youngest daughter with my compliments."
