New Year

I don't "get" celebrating a new year, or a birthday, or any of those sorts of things. It makes no sense to me. Why not celebrate every new month? Week? Moment?

[I am suddenly reminded of a mid-80s Randy Stonehill song/album, "Celebrate this Hearbeat" ("'coz it just might be my last").]

Perhaps this song I wrote in college will help you see why I have problems getting excited about a new year.

Perhaps you'd be happier as a Jehovah's Witness? Kinda sounds right up your alley. ;-)

Funny you should say that

I was listening this morning to an interview of some Moulin Rouge dancer who was saying thet new year's eve was one of the worst evenings of the season -- because of the mandatory fun. The clients paid for fun, they want fun or their money back. This generates a negative atmosphere. I do agree, like Carroll's Mad Hatter, who preferred non-anniversaries.

I guess I'm the other way around. When I was a kid, I actually tried to wish everyone a happy new month, happy new week, etc. Or at least utter the sentence to myself.

Oh, the crazy things kids do!
