The folks who own the rights to Woody Guthrie's This Land is Your Land were not amused by JibJab's wonderful parody.

Today, I found this quote of Woody Guthrie himself on techdirt:

«This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright # 154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do.»

I am sure it never entered Mr. Guthries mind when he was making that remark that someone would use it in the way they did at jibjab. And that quote was how long ago?

I do find the humor in it though.

This usenet post claims it was made in 1939. I have seen references to this made by Pete Seeger dated 1967.
