I've recently started playing some older games, particularly those from the X-COM series (UFO: Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep, and Apocalypse). They're great games, which is why I'm still playing them now, many many years after their release.
I'm playing them on a Windows machine, and discovered that I actually found them more playable under Linux using dosemu. The primary reason is that I value my desktop space. Having a 320x200 or 640x480 game take up my entire 1680x1050 monitor is rather inconvenient. It's even more inconvenient that the full-screen mode stops me from using my second monitor (1280x1024). Under dosemu in Linux I could have the game running in a Window. That's perfect for when I want to keep one eye on my e-mail, or nagios, or the 'tail -f' on syslog that I'm doing on a sick machine.
