I'm so glad I went to YAPC, my first real Perl meeting outside of
Chicago PM.
Random thoughts:
- MJD is an amazing speaker. He was truly inspiring to me, especially since he was talking about giving speeches an hour before I had to give my lightning talk.
- Schwern is a lot more soft-spoken than I expected. Maybe it's the guns. His talk on Test::Harness et al was good, too.
- I really need to get into Jesse Vincent's RT system. It's what drives the bug-tracking in CPAN, and I'm going to be using it at the Day Job soon.
- I thought St. Louis was a lot bigger than it is.
- There are no pay phones to be found on the WUSTL campus. Darn those cellphones.
- Geoff Young, of The mod_perl Cookbook is also a great speaker. So many things I learned in his talk that I want to try...
- The Reefknot project is a hell of an idea, if things can get started. I just signed up for their developer list.
