Simon Cozens' modules need a good home

Followup: They've been redistributed. See

Simon Cozens, the not-entirely-mad genius, has left for God School. He's retiring from the CPAN, and leaving his legacy of Perl modules behind. See for the details.

I've stepped up to take on the task of making sure his 100 modules (http://search.cpan.org/user/simon) don't fall into disuse, and that they have proper new masters and mistresses, like I did with Iain Truskett's modules when he passed away last year. If you'd like to take over maintenance of one of Simon's module distributions, this is your chance. PLEASE read through this entire message before sending email.

I'll be collecting email requests over the next week or so, and sorting them out. I'm sure that some modules will have multiple requests, and it is NOT going to just be "first come, first served". However, if you wait too long, your request may be too late, so get them in sooner than later.

If you are interested in a distribution, please email me the following:

  • The name of the distribution (NOT module name)
  • Your PAUSE ID
  • Why you're interested
The "why you're interested" is key, because I may have to figure out between a couple of different people who should maintain it. Maybe your reason is simply "because I use the module all the time", and that's fine. If you're the only one who's interested, then I'll assign you that distro. However, I'll give preference to folks who have definite plans: "I want to add features X and Y, and it's used heavily by Module Z that I currently maintain."

Please send your email to me at modules@petdance.com with the subject line in this format: Subject: Distribution-Name PAUSEID Your Name or if you prefer $subjline = join( " ", "Subject:", $distro, $pauseid, $name ); If you don't have a PAUSEID yet, then use NONE.

Send one email for EACH distribution, please. I know it may be a pain doing two or three emails, but it will be an even bigger pain for me if you don't. Please have mercy on the poor volunteer guy who has to dole out 100 modules.

Some of the modules have already been assigned, as shown below. Other than those, they're all up for grabs.

Thank you for your interest, and helping keep this big chunk of CPAN going strong.

Some already reassigned

petek on 2004-09-16T23:44:08

Some might already be reassigned; e.g. WWW::Hotmail, which got reassigned and re-released to XANTUS.

And Config-Auto which is now in the hands of Jos "KANE" Boumans.

...and Games-Goban, which has been mine for some time.

I had wondered what was happening, but didn't manage to find his blog again until you posted the link. :/

Useful summary

da on 2004-09-17T05:37:29

If you're browsing, an autobiography of Simon's Perl life is both interesting and possibly quite useful.

Doesn't really need a maintainer.

Yes, yes, I know.

Status update?

Aristotle on 2004-09-22T15:56:19

It would be nice if you could give us a rough idea of how long this is taking / going to take, at least if you can even tell yourself.

See the original article: "I'll be collecting email requests over the next week or so, and sorting them out"

Any news?
