Carrying on with Spoon's work

petdance on 2004-01-17T17:39:23

Let's make sure that Spoon's work doesn't fall into disuse. I'd like to find people who are interested in carrying on with his work. His CPAN distributions include:

  • DateTime-Format-Builder-0.78
  • DateTime-Format-Excel-0.29
  • DateTime-Format-HTTP-0.35
  • DateTime-Format-IBeat-0.16
  • DateTime-Format-Mail-0.29
  • Email-Thread-0.68
  • Net-Starnet-DataAccounting-1.2
  • PHP-Strings-0.27
  • Test-Signature-1.05
  • Time-TAI64-1.8
  • WWW-Mechanize-Cached-1.23
  • WWW-Page-Author-1.2
  • WWW-Page-Modified-1.2
  • WWW-Shorten-1.88
  • WWW-Yahoo-Groups-1.91

Anyone interested in taking over any of these? Please pipe up and let's get organized in distributing them to interested maintainers.

I could easily take over WWW-Mechanize-Cached, and perhaps WWW-Page-{Author,Modified} should get folded into WWW::Mechanize?

Also, he ran books.perl.org, but I don't think that ran on the same Combust-driven stuff that qa.perl.org did.

Test-Signature

As the author of Module::Signature, I'd be happy to maintain Test::Signature.

PHP::Strings

Well, I would like to volunteer to take PHP::Strings if noone more experienced would be up for the job. I was having a similar idea to implement PHP functions in Perl, but seems that Spoon has beaten me (by a long time)

OK, what's your PAUSE ID?

It's KUDARASP

WWW::Shorten

Spoon's WWW::Shorten was an expansion of my WWW::MakeAShorterLink, so I'd be happy to take that on.

DateTime modules

Hi,

I would suggest you post something on the datetime mailing list for his datetime modules. Or, if you prefer, contact Dave Rolsky.

Already did. Dave Rolsky is now in charge of 'em all.

Thanks.

I wrote Time::Beat, which Iain contributed a patch to; he was interested because he wrote DateTime::Format::IBeat. So I'd be happy to take over maintaining that. I'll drop a line to Dave.
