So I'm not the greatest expert on cricket, and don't always follow it intently, but got very confused attempting to glean the state of the match by trying to correlate yesterday's scorecard with the ball by ball commentary for today. No-one was out today before Pietersen, yet somehow on the scorecard there's a massive partnership before the fall of Read's wicket, which doesn't tally with the batsmen's scores and the batting order.
Finally I spotted the answer in the usually-out-of-date summary at the top of that page - Pietersen resumed on 104 after retiring on Friday with cramps in his arm and after a quiet start showed aggression. This is the first time I remember someone resuming after retiring. And to add to my confusion it seems that Hoggard was out on the last ball of yesterday, and Pietersen resumed on the first ball of today, so all this disappears as an edge case that doesn't show up on the "ball by ball" section.
