Given that it's sometimes suspected that certain large software company is in league with the Devil, it seems strange to me that God has Smite Google and Yahoo! on His todo list. Maybe Google isn't that good at fulfilling their "do no evil" mission statement. On the other hand, maybe Microsoft is on the todo list too, given that they're sitting atop an active subduction zone which hasn't had any decent action in a few hundred years, and subduction zones produce even larger earthquakes than transform faults.
All this does explain Google's desire to decentralise their development centres of excellence. At least Dublin and Zurich should survive most likely natural and man made catastrophes.
