How much software is written by people like this?
Advice from Klortho #11901 applies. I'm not sure if I should be so blunt as to reply with this information.
Oooh, he's responded. I like the way he fully admits to not understanding his change, and doesn't seem in the slightest bothered about that — so much that he's even suggesting more changes.

I'm contemplating replying bluntly to him and the list suggesting that he has no clue, explaining that I am a volunteer[*], his problem is no longer interesting to me, but that he could contact my employer to arrange paid consultancy should he so wish. (Kortho's advice #11930)
* This is perl 5, not ponie. ponie is a work project, and has a column on my time sheet.
