use 5.005;

London.pm had a tech meet last night, at Morgan Stanley's offices in London's Docklands. A couple of people have blogged this already.

The most interesting thing that I gathered there was that Morgan Stanley use several versions of perl in production, not just 5.6.x, but also 5.005 and 5.004. Now, people have been arguing that 5.005 is 4 years old now, surely everyone sane has moved onto newer versions, what's the point of supporting it, ...

I haven't been saying that:

Yes, I keep harking back to that message, but I consider it important. So does acme, and I'm very pleased that he's agreed to take on the role of 5.005 pumkping (and no, I didn't ask him to, and it wasn't mine to give). Hopefully having 3 separate maintained tracks of perl will provide solid ammunition to counter any FUD merchants who might want to suggest that perl is doing Norwegian Blue impressions.

Mmm. Now, how do london.pm persuade Rafael and Leo to move to the big smoke? Actually, given that the usual "membership" criteria is being subscribed to the list, teleworking is almost certainly sufficient. I wonder if Leo likes buffy?

Don't tempt me.

It's grey and raining here, and the pubs shut way too early. You wouldn't enjoy it :-)

Mmm. Then again you can buy decent malt whisky from your local off-licence on a Sunday. There are some good points.
