Software patents

The officers from the European patent offices meet on Thursday to stitch up the November ministers' meeting on software patents. I (finally) wrote to my MP today to express my concerns. Better late than never.

(Who here has written to theirs. Who has concerns, but hasn't written? (shame on you - get moving. See http://www.ffii.org.uk/council.html for details.) And it turns out that the UK patent office have put online why I don't want software patents. How sweet. Shame that they ignored me, but what did I expect?)

Anyway, however much you hate all politicians, I see no harm in reminding them ultimately who decides if they stay in the duty free drinking club for another term. I ended with:

As you can infer I feel strongly about this issue, and would not vote for the government at the next general election if the minister votes in favour of abandoning the European parliament's ammendments at the council of ministers' meeting.

I hope my Labour MP takes note. He's not in the safest seat.
