In 1998, John de Lancie and "L.A. TheatreWorks revived WAR OF THE WORLDS, in an all-star production that features Leonard Nimoy, Gates McFadden and many of the original cast of TV’s Star Trek," and this week, the BBC World Service played it as their Play of the Week. It was thrilling to hear a remake of this great radio program on the radio.

Other cast members include Brent Spiner, Wil Wheaton, Meagan Fay, Jerry Hardin, Dwight Schultz, Armin Shimerman, Tom Virtue.

BBC blurb continues "In 1938 Orson Welles and The Mercury Theatre Company broadcast Howard Koch’s radio dramatisation of this sci-fi classic and caused the biggest Halloween fright of all time. They interrupted regular programming with numerous news flashes and first-hand reports that were so convincing thousands of people believed the world was coming to an end. Loosely based on H.G.Well’s novel, Orson Welles’ production went down in history as THE PANIC BROADCAST."

The BBC broadcast at least included an interview with gates McFadden about making the new remake, and how she tried to make her character, Carl(a) Phillips, seem period yet believably female.
