NWS reports --

  • Boston common 26.0 116 PM 1/23 NWS employee
  • Record "daily" maximum snowfall set at Boston
The first blizzard here since the April Fools storm of 1997 brought us a top 5 snowstorm in historic annals for Boston dating back to 1892.
And also, a "daily" record snowfall of 13.4 inches was set at Boston yesterday. This breaks the old record for the date of 12.4 set in 1935.

Also 2nd worst in Providence, top 5 for Worcester; however elsewhere in the region, it was only "an ordinary snowstorm for N CT and W MA."

My "theory" is that this blizzard was "caused" by the December release of the long-awaited update to Kocin & Uccellini's Northeast Snowstorms: Volume I and II, as this renders it instantly out-of-date again.
