There's an article in LA Weekly giving the early history of the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), leading up to its eventual purchase and repurposing by Amazon-dot-com.
But, they seemed to have left out that I wrote the very first program to operate on the data that would eventually become the IMDB, and in Perl no less. Fortunately,
DejaGoogle has a record of said program.

Wow, well done
:-) You're in the history of one great site - IMDB is a terribly useful resource for finding out about movies, looking for good movies and reading about favorite actresses

They also made little or no mention of the thousand of contributors who have polished the data over the years, especially obscure movies from "minor" countries. Nice article, but with some kind of spin: the idea was to portray IMDb as a extraordinary yet typical Internet venture, from obscurity to corporate global relevance (i.e. happiness).
isn't it still in perl?

Their main programmer used to show up on the mod_perl list regularly.
