00:42 <mdxi> one day i'm gonna break down and write a big old editorial telling all the Linux desktop people to bite my fucking ass, that some of us still like that whole "learning and having fun" thing and could care less if Mary Jo Numbfuck uses Linux to look at her goddamned HTML chainmails 00:42 <mdxi> and that i hope they all rot in hell, where they will be forced to use Sinclair ZX-81s for all eternity 00:43 <mdxi> with no copies of Elite 00:44 <ejp there are two kinds of people. those who like and use Linux the way it is. And those who should be using OSX. 00:45 <mdxi> i thought that piece from whatshisface last week about how all freenix coders do is reinvent the wheel was especially hilarious 00:45 <mdxi> what the living fuck would he call his precious GNOME? 00:46 <mdxi> all gnome and kde do is throw away everything that made X unique and replace it with as much windows and/or mac os as possible 00:46 <ejp> yup

You can keep your freaking X monstronsity. How does xauth work again?

Plan 9 all the way. "One protocol [9P] to rule them ... one protocol [9P] to
bring them all, and in the kernel to bind them."

Ha ha ssh X forwarding.

Actually, I really like everything I've read about Plan9, and would love to work with it. It looks great, as the next iteration of Unix should, and reading about acme inspired me to start on a project of my own with some similar capabilities.

Sadly, all but one of my machines are SPARC or PowerPC architecture, and so I cannot use it.
