I have been on an eternal quest for a replacement for the venerable Macintosh program "InControl". This was a PIM/Outliner that was just the right size to be a personal project manager. It's claim to fame was that you could have columns in your outline and the columns could be pulldown menus, auto-expand, dates, currency, etc.
But the company, Attain, went out of business and sold the software to the makers of InfoDepot, which also immediately went out of business. Poof! No more InControl. And no one in Macintoshland with any similar functionality. For about 5 years!
Out of the blue, OmniGroup came out with OmniOutline. Version 1 got my attention, and I wrote them about what I missed from InControl, since they were asking for feature requests. But I left it alone because it was just another outliner at that point.
But now OmniOutline has columns! Yeehaw! And the datafile format is XML-ish! Not binary! And then it struck me...
OmniOutline --> Perl/XML --> Palm::Progect !!! I might be able to have a desktop project management tool that syncs to my Palm on MacOSX!!!
(note: The Palm software, Progect (not misspelled) is the best open source project management software on the palm)
