What Kind of American English Do You Speak? - I haven't done one of these things for a while; I'm surprised the 'Dixie' is such a small percentage (I've lived in Florida/Mississippi for four or so years of my life):

Your Linguistic Profile:

70% General American English
15% Yankee
10% Dixie
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern

55% General American English, 30% Dixie, 10% Yankee, 5% Upper Midwestern, 0% Midwestern

Not bad considering that I lived in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Colorado and California... all before I started grade school. I've also lived in Arkansas, Alabama, and Kansas. Most of my life was spent in Texas though.

I blame the 10% Yankee on my dad. ;-)

60% General American English, 20% Upper Midwestern, 10% Dixie, 5% Midwestern, 5% Yankee.

There are a few questions that can determine a Wisconsinite rather than a Upper Midwesterner.

  • What do you drink from? Bubbler.
  • What does the word route rhyme with? This depends on context and how close you live near the Illinois border (highways in Illinois are all routes, rhyming with boot).

"25% Dixie, 20% Yankee" - You're a war between the states all-in-one!

Er, sorry, "War of Northern Agression"...

I am similar: 55% general American, 30% Yankee, 15% Dixie. My mom's family came from Arkansas, my parents grew up in PA, and I grew up in MA.
