As if simply typing XML (say docbook) gives you what TeX gives you. To get that type of output, you'd not XML (docbook) + XSLT + XSL-FO or something like that. Since XSLT is a programming language (in XML, GACK!), I hardly think it qualifies as easier than TeX, which can be used as simply (well, complexly) a way to format a document.

I suppose it might well depend on what you mean by 'use'. ISTM that TeX is a much more 'humane' system for writers though.
