I ran into an interesting article about the complexity of programming on the modern PC platform. I think the author makes some excellent points. I've rolled my eyes at resumes where a person lists that they are proficient in *many* different languages. They may know many languages, but using a particular language is always within the context of a platform and a bunch of libraries. Proficiency takes years of work.
