Perl Quote of the Day

Today's Perl quote: Knowing perl helps one learn other languages though it hinders one's desire to program in them.

/MeowChow, probably in a Perlmonks post

I think that's true for at least a group of languages clearly inferior to Perl. VBScript comes to mind, which is the one I'm most unable to avoid.

So true

The first language I learned for actual *work* was C. I never got good at it though, because I was doing a lot of text parsing, and I happened to come across Perl. That was the end of my C days for a long time.

Now that I'm getting into extensions (and thus C), I'm finding it much easier. I'm not sure exactly why that is, though pointers are of no concern to me any longer. My troubles are mostly limited to makefiles and the preprocessor these days. :)

Heh, when I started learning C, suitable enough from a book called "Learning C", I had severe problems understanding pointers. Maybe because it was the first "real" language I learned after GW-Basic, maybe because I was 12 years old (or something) at the time :)
